E-journals (and articles)

How do I find e-journals?

Journals, and in many cases also individual journal articles, can be found in CatalogPlus, opens an external URL in a new window.
In the menu on the left-hand side, limit your search results to "Medium" > "Journal" or "Medium" > "Article".

In addition, the library’s e-journals holdings can be found in the Electronic Journals Library (Elektronische Zeitschriftenbibliothek, EZB, opens an external URL in a new window). This is an international directory of e-journals. It only contains journal titles with collection information; it does not contain any journal articles.  A traffic light system indicates whether access is available. The yellow traffic light represents all licensed journals. However, you will also find open-access (green) and unlicensed (red) e-journals. Information regarding which other libraries offer access can be found at the bottom of the page, via the "List of participating institutions with fulltext access." link.

How can I view e-journals?

On the TU Wien campus, you can usually access e-journals without any additional login. The "ViewIt" link in CatalogPlus opens the journal and you can read or download the articles, provided you are using a TU Wien computer on campus, or have a VPN connection active if you are working off-campus (note that you need to choose the "All tunnelled" option during VPN login).

Print journals and newspapers

Print journals

How do I search for print journals and where do I get them?

Search for print journals on CatalogPlus. Filter your results by "Journals/Newspapers" and "Printed works". Journals held at other libraries can be found on the Austrian Library Network's Search Engine, opens an external URL in a new window. Our interlibrary loans service can obtain journals articles from other libraries for you.

Print journals are on the 2nd floor of the main library, classified by subject category, and are not usually available for loan. Current issues can be found in the reading room on the left. Bound journal volumes are classified by subject categories and shelf marks, and volumes in the open access reading room date back to 1991 (exceptions: ARC and BAU to 1971, and DAT to 2001). All other journals are in the closed stacks and need to be requested in advance, online on CatalogPlus or at the circulation desk on the ground floor. You can only use these collections in the library.

In the Chemistry and Mechanical Engineering Library reading room, you will find journals from the subject fields of chemistry and mechanical engineering.

Newspapers

On the "Pressreader, opens an external URL in a new window" Platform, you have online access to a large number of national and international newspapers and magazines.
